No one teaches craft and technique like Rebecca Makkai. I am lucky enough to have been in her Tin House workshop years ago, and I STILL think back to specific craft points she made that continue to be some of the most helpful writing insights I've encountered. Not to mention she is hilarious and fun and a wonderful person!
Kat approaches writing - and in particular novel writing and revision - with rigor, dedication, persistence, and high-levels of systemized intelligence, and anyone stuck on any part of this lengthy, unwieldy process will benefit from the way she breaks down structure, craft, and process.
For anyone wanting an MFA-experience, with the best of the best, George Saunders' Story Club is your way in. Start at the beginning, and work your way through reading the stories he assigns, doing the exercises, and reading his responding posts, and I promise you will grow as a writer and person.
